As a motorcycle enthusiast determined to make way for women in a largely male-dominated industry, Nicole Everhart opened Tarnish in 2014.

“As a woman, it’s hard to find gear that you actually want to wear,” explains Everhart, “because for a long time the industry, run by men, said if it’s for a woman, it’s going to be all pink and glittery.”

While Nicole’s aim for Tarnish is more of a lifestyle shop than a gear store, she stocks classic, quality jackets and vintage-inspired, DOT-approved Biltwell helmets for women. If the color or style you want isn’t on the shelves, it can be ordered.

The shop mostly showcases women’s apparel, but there are plans to have more men’s fashions soon. While we browsed, about a half-dozen ladies were chatting about bike repair. Tarnish has fostered an excellent community for those who ride and those who want to ride, providing a hospitable place to bring your questions and hosting monthly ladies bike nights during the warmer months.

Tarnish also stocks various leather goods like cuffs, wallets and purses, as well as a combination of vintage and new apparel, shoes and a great collection of sunglasses, jewelry and pins. It’s worth a look, even if you don’t consider yourself a biker chick.
